What is the prevalence of Thalemia in Greece?

Sickle-cell and thalasaemia are quite similar and the trait in the mediterranean have spread from the east. Incidentally it is commonplace in Northern India and Pakistan. It is due to close knit communities, and intermarrying in communities. The red blood cells have mutated smaller than normal and the prevalence of white blood cells is greater. The condition is often treatable with a diet rich in iron, lentils, fish and redmeat. In some cases doctors call for the use of blood transfusions (yuk) - best avoided in my opinion.
