Is there a name for this? I need a doctor or someone who knows about the human brain?

I had a special kind of test on my brain, I was explained that I am thinking with the cerebral cortex instead of the left and right hemisphere (I'm not sure if that was exactly what they said). There is little activity in that area and this could have effects on my short term memory and processing information. Is there a name for this?
